Obafemi Awolowo University: 3 student leaders suspended

The President of the Student Union of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife,  Omotayo Akande has been suspended for six semesters by the authorities of the university.

He was punished along with the Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojedokun, who got four semesters suspension  with the   General Secretary, Seun Oketooto.

All the suspended students are in their final years and are expected to write their final examinations in two months time.

The authorities said the students were punished  for allegedly assaulting a Professor in the institution.

Students of the university, however, argued that the suspension of their leaders was not unconnected with their agitation for better welfare.

The Student Union leader, Omotayo Akande who is a 500 level student of Chemical Engineering said three of them were suspended due to their roles in demanding better welfare for students.

He appealed to well meaning Nigerians, students, organisations and human rights group to come to their aid and rescue  them from the suspension.

Students of the university  had staged a peaceful protest, lecture boycott and media campaign against the poor state of infrastructurein the school.
