Tributes have started pouring for the departed monarch of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Odulana, Odugade 1 who died on Tuesday night, aged over 101 years.
Among the early tributes were those from The National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the former vice-president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar.
Tinubu described the death of the Olubadan Of Ibadan Land, Oba Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade as the passing on of one of the Greats of the Yoruba nation.
“A custodian of the Yoruba tradition and culture, filled with wisdom and also genteel. His death will be felt amongst not just his people but the Yoruba nation”.
Tinubu noted that during the reign of the Olubadan Of Ibadan Land, Oba Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade , Ibadan witnessed peace and development. He was supportive of the advancement of the people and he kept faith with the values, tradition, culture and integrity of the Yoruba nation.
” I mourn with the governor and people of Oyo State over his passing. He has left a legacy which we must sustain.May the soul of the departed rest in peace”.

ormer Vice President and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Atiku Abubakar has described the late monarch as a towering character whose footprints in Nigeria’s politics and traditional rulership will remain indelible. The Turaki Adamawa said the late Olubadan’s wisdom and counsel which he rendered to those who encountered him during his reign was invaluable.
“On several occasions during the reign of Oba Odulana, each time I visited Ibadan I will always pay homage to him at his palace and at each time I am particularly delighted by his fatherly advice and prayers for me,” Atiku says.
“I share in the grief of the people of Ibadan over the demise of this outstanding monarch, but I am more delighted about the fact that Oba Odulana led an impactful lifetime.”
Atiku Abubakar condoled with indigenes and residents of the ancient city of Ibadan over the demise of its paramount ruler, and particularly urged family and associates of the late king to take solace in the fact that Oba Odulana lived a rich and impactful life.
