Socio-economic activities in Asaba metropolis, capital of Delta state, was Monday paralysed by protesters under the aegis of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who stormed major streets of the town in peaceful protest against the continued incarceration of the Director of pirate Radio Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu.
The placard carrying protesters who also bore various Biafra insignias, caused heavy traffic gridlock on the ever busy Nnebisi Road, insisting that they would remain on the streets until the detained Kanu is released from the custody of security agencies.
One of the protesters who identified himself simply as Ikenna, told journalists that the peaceful protest was staged to prevail on the Federal Government to releaseMr. Kanu from detention.
He disclosed that they were not harassed in anyway by security agencies as it used to be in the past.
“This is a peaceful protest for the release of our leader, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu from prison. We will continue to remain on the streets until he is freed. This protest is happening in Asaba alone by members of IPOB,” Ikenna added.
