A man thought to be a Boko Haram member has been freed by Nigeria’s military.
The man, Abubakar Sadiq was arrested recently as suspect Number 28 on the wanted list of 100 insurgents published by Nigeria’s military authorities.
After an investigation, the Joint Investigation Committee in Maiduguri has now cleared Sadiq of any link with the rebels in Boko Haram.
Before his arrest, Sadiq was a security guard at the residence of Mohammed Daggash in Maiduguri
He was arrested based on the assumption that he was suspect number 28 on the wanted Boko Haram terrorists lists.
“However, a thorough investigation carried out, as well as new BH terrorists video clip acquired and the employment of forensic analysis, the committee conclusively confirmed that it was a case of mistaken identity”, said Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman in a sattement today.
The erroneously arrested person has since been released to his family, he said.
