Nigerians have been reacting on social media since Thursday afternoon when it was announced that controversial Portuguese Chelsea manager has been relieved of his job by his employer.
The North London side announced on their website that they have parted ways with their erstwhile coach, Mourinho on mutual consent.
Chelsea further said that Mourinho’s three league titles, FA Cup, Community Shield and three League Cup wins over two spells make him the most successful manager in their 110-year history. But both Jose and the board agreed results have not been good enough this season and believe it is in the best interests of both parties to go our separate ways.
While some Nigerians saw Mourinho’s sack as being long overdue, others argued that he had been a coach who had brought honours to Chelsea, but deserved not to be treated the way he was in the last few months of his stay at the club.
Writing on his twitter handle @Jololade, Lolade Adewuyi said: “Jose
Mourinho 3 Premier League titles; FA Cup, Community Shield, 3 League
Cup wins made him Most successful Chelsea manager.
To Obiageli Ezekwesili, former Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals
(June 2005 – June 2006), who also was a Minister in the Education Ministry
(June 2006-April 2007), human race should learn a lesson from
Mourinho’s destiny with Chelsea.
She wrote on her twitter handle @obyezeks: “Folks, take a KEY LESSON
from the twist of fate between Claudio Ranieri and Jose Mourinho.
TODAY is never FOREVER. #NoConditionIsPermanent.”
Ezekwesili, a Nigerian chartered accountant, who was also a co-founder
of Transparency International further said: “Do I think Jose Mourinho’s stock can rise again? Absolutely! Life is a cycle especially for those who embrace Failure’s Lessons.”
Rotimmy Akindele, writing @mreds counselled the Portuguese coach not
to rush into taking another job, saying “Dear Jose, Don’t rush into any job please. Stay out till the end of the season and come to Old Trafford abeg… #JoseMourinho #MUFC.”
Mr. Chairman in @ebuka_akara said: “ Mourinho should try his luck at
International level. If he wins the Euro or World Cup… Nobody will hear word again. It’s ironic how Mourinho started failing after he called Wenger a specialist in failure.”
Ayotunde Onabolu writing on @AyotundeOnabolu said: “If Mourinho takes
a break from football, I think he’ll be back bigger and stronger. He’s still one of the best managers of all-time.”
@Omojuwa believes the Special One will be back stronger soon, “Jose Mourinho will come back stronger. He needs the time off. New self doubt and all but at 52, he
is still a young manager.”
Segun Agbede was critical of Mourinho when he wrote on his twitter
handle @SegunThePundit that “Jose Mourinho’s sacking by Chelsea is a
spectacular fall from grace. From Champion to Chump in 7 months.”
