U-23 Nations Cup: Osimhen gets CAF nod to replace Ajayi Success

Osimhen: wearing jersey number 9 for Nigeria’s Dream Team VI

Confederation of African Football announced today that it has accepted the inclusion of Nigeria’s U-17 striker, Victor Osimhen as a replacement for Isaac Ajayi Success in the Nigerian U-23 Squad now in Senegal for the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations Senegal 2015

Osimhen will be wearing jersey Number 9, the same jersey that Success who plays for Granada FC would have worn.

Nigeria is not the only country in the 8-nation tournament that tinkered with its sqaud.

Egypt and Mali also made changes to their squad lists ahead of the opening matches of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations Senegal 2015. Egypt replaced Emad Hamdy Ibrahim with Mamdouh Khaled El-Sayed. The Pharaohs also replaced Saleh Gomaa, with Mohamed Metwaly, who will wear Jersey 10. Mali replaced Moussa Doumbia with Abdoulaye Diarra.

According to CAF: “The changes were done in accordance with Article 66.2 of the regulations of the tournament which states “A player on the final list cannot be replaced unless seriously injured at the latest twenty-four hours (24) at least before the beginning of the first match of his team. The CAF medical Committee must approve his substitution in writing, after reception and approval of a detailed medical certificate. CAF medical Committee shall write a certificate attesting that the wound is sufficiently serious to prevent the player from participating at the U-23 AFCON and will submit this certificate to the organizing Committee for approval.

“Once the certificate is approved, the association should then immediately appoint a substitute immediately and inform CAF General Secretariat accordingly. CAF General Secretariat shall publish the final list of twenty-one (21) players”.
