Arik Air, nine years old today, and Old Mutual Insurance Company on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for customised travel insurance for the airline’s passengers for destinations within the country.
The MoU was signed at the public presentation of the Insurance policy by the airline’s Managing Director, Mr Chris Ndulue, and the Managing Director, Old Mutual Insurance Company, Mrs Racheal Emenike, in Lagos.
Ndulue said that the policy was aimed at taking passengers’ flying experience to a new level.
He said the air travel insurance policy was provided by the insurance company in partnership with Risk Analysts Insurance Brokers.
According to the Arik chief, the policy provided cover to air travellers for accidents like damage to baggage, missing bags, flight cancellations or delays and medical expenses.
Ndulue said it also provided a one million naira cover for personal accidents resulting in death, permanent disability or bodily injury, within 90 days of the occurrence of the accident.
He added that the cover was from airport to airport, within Nigeria, whilst aboard Arik Air.
“With just a premium of N1, 000 you can enjoy customised travel insurance on Airk Air. All you need to do is buy an Arik Air ticket online at www.arikair.com to any destination within Nigeria and buy an Air Travel Insurance for just N1000, using the Verve, Visa or MasterCard.
“The policy includes cover for flight cancellation or delays of more than eight hours, which attracts N20, 000, and emergency medical expenses of N50, 000.
“Other benefits are mishandled/missing baggage (inconvenience), up to N20,000, and damage to baggage, which attracts up to N20,000 per passenger,’’ Ndulue said.
On her part, Emenike commended the airline for the initiative, describing the policy as a dream come true.
She said the policy was an add-on cover to the existing passengers’ Bill of Rights as it had not eliminated the problem of missing baggage and flight cancellation,
“When you buy the policy, you are buying many things at the same time. All these risks have been put into one insurance policy,’’ she said.
NAN reports that the highlight of the event was the cutting of the airline’s 9th anniversary cake.
