Siasia: I am working with the players in camp

Chief Coach of Dream Team VI, Samson Siasia, on Thursday in Abuja, said he was working with the available players in camp in preparation for the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.

Dream team VI trashed Dawaki United Football Club of FCT 11-0 in a friendly match played at the FIFA Gold Project of Package B.

Nigerian under-23 male football team has qualified for the championship billed for Senegal from Nov. 28 to Dec. 11.

It has since finished third at the 11th African Games in Congo and preparing for the African championship where it will battle for a place in the 2016 Olympic Games.

Siasia told newsmen that his players were still engaged with their clubs’ activities.

He was not impressed with the turn-out of players for the camp in Abuja.

“I am only working with these news players. I just want to see what they can offer; we are still expecting the invited foreign players in camp. We had an agreement with the club managers that players will come to camp from Monday to Friday.

“They will then join their clubs at the weekend and resume camp on Monday, the situation is the same. We are supposed to go to Morocco and Tunisia for friendly matches but nobody is saying anything and I am afraid.

“Our plan was that the invited foreign players will join us in Morocco’’, he said.

Coach of Dawaki United FC, Baba Danasabe, said it was a privilege for his team to play with the national team.

“If Dream Team VI can go with this spirit to Senegal, we don’t have anything to fear, we must support them as a nation and I am sure they will make us proud’’, he said.

Nigeria is drawn with Algeria, Egypt and Mali in Group B at the championship slated for Dakar and M’Bour in Senegal.

The top three teams at the event will fly Africa’s flag at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
