Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II has stripped his predecessor’s eldest son, Sanusi Ado Bayero of the Chiroma title.
Ado Bayero had lost the throne to Sanusi June 8, 2014 in a bitter succession dispute.
The Emir has appointed the District Head of Dala, Alhaji Nasiru Bayero to replace him as the new Chiroma.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Galadiman Kano and Senior Councillor in the Emirate, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, made available to newsmen in Kano on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the former Chiroma, who was also the District Head of Gwale, was removed following his refusal to pay homage to the Emir, since he was appointed on June 8, 2014.
‘’It is against the Sharia and the traditional institution for any District Head and member of the Emirate Council to refuse to pay homage to the Emir.
‘’The former Chiroma was a district head and a member of the Emirate council, hence the decision to remove him’’, it said.
The statement added that all district heads and other traditional rulers in the state had since paid homage to the Emir with the exception of the former Chiroma.
Bayero, 59 years old, has been recording a streak of bad luck in public service in recent months.
Last year June, he was almost crowned the successor to his illustrious father, Ado Bayero, as Emir of the largest Nigerian city of Kano, until the state government ruled the move as speculative and chose instead Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
In April this year, former President Goodluck Jonathan sacked Habibu Abdullahi, as the Managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority and announced Bayero as the new helmsman. But four months after, Bayero lost out, as President Muhammadu Buhari ordered a return to the status quo ante.
