Shola Ameobi: joins Bolton

Nigerian international, Shola Ameobi, shunned by Charlton Athletic, has now found home in Bolton Wanderers, where fellow compatriot Jay Jay Okocha plied his skill for some years.

Bolton have completed the signing of  the veteran Nigerian striker  on a short-term deal after a successful trial period.

Neil Lennon has secured the 34-year-old to add to the Championships lowest goal tally of nine goals in the opening 12 games, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the table.

Ameobi will join forces with fellow 30-something striker Emile Heskey, who is yet to score this season, and will wear the number 26 shirt for the Wanderers.

A goal-less four substitute appearances, where he managed just one shot, for Crystal Palace last season followed a spell in the Turkish Super League with Gaziantepspor where he netted four goals – his last, however, was on October 4 2014.

He made 314 appearances for Newcastle United in a lengthy 19 year affiliation with the club and sits in second behind Alan Shearer for goals in European competitions with 15.
