Former Lagos Governor, Raji Fashola today, at the Senate, acknowledged the contributions of his political mentors and the team that made him succeed. He was reacting to a question at the floor of the Senate on what he would do to make sure that Abuja, the federal capital does not slip back into the pre-Fashola Lagos.

He replied that generally he could not take credit for all the works credited to him. In his words: “It was a team work. It was a pioneering work by all those who served before me and it is a continued effort. I would not have been able to control flooding if people before me did not design a master plan. So it would be inappropriate and immodest of me to appropriate responsibility for all what happened.”

Fashola also reacted to how old and new politicians react to the economic and political development of Nigeria. He said in every nation, the more elderly politicians are the mature ones. “They are our guides and compass. No matter how hard we try, we cannot discount the experience, the maturity and counselling and the guiding support of people who are older than we are.”
