Amosun with the police chiefs

Governor  Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state said  he is committed to ensuring that the state is not considered by criminals as a comfort zone.

He stated this when he  met Mr Bala Hassan, the new Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2 comprising of Ogun and Lagos states, in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The governor, commending the police, said his administration would continue to support the Nigeria Police in its efforts to rid the state of criminals and criminal elements.

“Security is very important to us and we will continue to support with vehicles and materials for the police in order to make sure that Ogun state will not be a comfort zone for criminals,” Amosun said.

He added that ensuring security was particularly necessary because of the pace of infrastructural and economic development the state had recorded in recent years.

“Development comes with some challenges and criminals will go for places where there is development,” Amosun said.

The AIG appreciated the governor’s support for the police and commended the infrastructural developments he had noticed in Abeokuta, noting that the city had been radically transformed from what it was the last time he visited.

He agreed with the governor that the pace of infrastructural development in the state was such that would naturally attract criminals, but promised to continue to push criminals out of the zone.

“I have not been here for a long time, but I have seen remarkable changes in terms of both structural and physical development.

“With this development in place, the Nigeria Police will see a situation whereby the mission to secure the lives and properties of over 30 million inhabitants of Ogun and Lagos is achieved,” he said.

Hassan also disclosed that security plans for the forthcoming burial of the late HID Awolowo, matriarch of the Awolowo family, was underway.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Hassan was accompanied on the visit by the Ogun Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali and other senior officers of the command.
