Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state has declared that the legacies left behind by the late matriarch of the Awolowo dynasty, Chief (Mrs) Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo transcend the Yoruba nation.

Amosun was away in Saudi Arabia when Hannah died on Saturday 19 September.

He arrived Sunday from pilgrimage to Mecca and  moved swiftly  to the Ikenne hometown of the Awolowos,  to commiserate with the family.

Amosun described her as a woman of substance, who was among the first generation of mothers and wives that stood by their husbands. Hannah’s husband, Obafemi Awolowo was the first premier of the Western region of Nigeria and faced political persecution, trials and imprisonment as the leader of the opposition in the early 1960s.

According to Amosun,”our Mama has finally gone to rest and it really pained us,but we thank God for her well spent life. A Life that was devoted to the family,to the town,to state,to the country and to humanity at large.

“Mama is among the first generation of  good mothers and wives, who stood firmly by their husbands. We should not mourn her, but rather celebrate the demise of this great  woman of substance.

“Her legacies trascend the Yoruba nation ,she was a great woman whose demise will be missed a lot in the country, especially, this time, when the dreams of her late husband are about to be seen and felt with the change mission of President Muhammed Buhari

“We will do everything within our reach to immortalise Mama, that generations yet unborn will remember this woman, who has done so much for the state.

“We are also going to play a prominent role in the burial of Mama. She is our mother and she has contributed a lot to the growth of this state and unity of the Yoruba nation,”the governor said.

The matriarch of the Awolowo dynasty died at the ripe age of ninety-nine,67 days to her centenary celebration on November 25,2015.

Arrangements are in top gear for the celebration of the centenary birthday for the woman, which many Nigerians have been pouring a lot of encomium on since her demise on Saturday 17,2015 at Ikenne.

The family, through the eldest daughter of the deceased,Chief (Mrs) Tokunbo Awolowo – Dosunmu, last week in one of her interviews with the newsmen disclosed that her mother’s burial has been fixed for her birthday date.
