President Muhammadu Buhari will host an Extraordinary Summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Heads of State Authority of Government and tomorrow, Tuesday, September 22, in Abuja.

The main item on the agenda of the summit is the current political sitaution in Burkina Faso, after last Thursday’s coup d’etat led by General Gilbert Diendere, a former spy chief.

Senegal’s President Macky Sall,  chairman of ECOWAS will be reporting on the agreement reached with the coup plotters, who had agreed to roll back their tanks and allow the democratic transition to go ahead.

Under the terms, Michel Kafando, interim president will be allowed to midwife the transition, leading to election on 22 November, instead of the 11 October that the transition government was working towards.

The Chief coup plotter will also be granted amnesty for what some analysts called a ‘stupid coup’.
