Toyin, the abducted wife of Steve Nwosu, Deputy Managing Director of The Sun Newspapers, Mr Steve Nwosu, got her freedom this morning, after three nights with the abductors.
The kidnappers dropped Toyin near Zenith Bank by FESTAC bridge and sped off in a boat.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr Fatai Owoseni, who confirmed her release, said she regained freedom at about 2.20 a.m today.
Owoseni said that she was picked up by her husband and policemen at 1st Gate, FESTAC Town, adding that he had visited the family with some senior officers.
The commissioner said the woman had narrated her ordeal to the police and added that the police were working with the information they got from her.
On Monday, about seven armed men invaded the Nwosus’ Bale Street in Ogundairo Bashorun Sunmonu Akanwo Estate, Okota at about 1a.m. The invaders reportedly entered the building close to Nwosu’s house with the aid of an abandoned ladder used to paint the building.
They entered Nwosu’s bungalow building by scaling the transformer fence and pulled the iron grille (burglar-proof) on the window, before gaining entrance into the sitting room. Mrs Nwosu was whisked away in an operation that lasted 30minutes.
The gunmen had demanded for N100 million as ransom before she would be released.
Owoseni, who did not mention if any ransom was paid before her release, commended her husband for cooperating with the police.
He said the command was doing everything possible to track the suspected kidnappers.
“Detectives and other intelligence operatives are working day and night to track the suspected criminals and bring them to book.
“I seize this opportunity to appeal to our people to know that for incidents like this, we need to work together.
“Steve Nwosu gave us all necessary cooperation before his wife was released. People should not do anything that would hinder investigations,’’ Owoseni advised.
In a brief chat with newsmen, Toyin thanked God for her release. ‘God is the ultimate’, she said. And her husband, Steve said the time was not appropriate enough for her to share her experience in the hands of the kidnappers.
