President Buhari: set to cut federal ministries to reduce cost

President Muhammadu Buhari is forging ahead with his plans to slash the Federal ministries from 42 to 19.

According to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, Buhari is not about to do a somersault on the plan.

Shehu was interviewed by Daily Trust.

President Buhari  had hinted about his plan  at the Nigeria House in Cotonou on August 1 while interacting with the Nigerian community in Benin Republic . The pruning of Federal ministries was part of the recommendation of the Alhaji Ahmed Joda transition committee.

Buhari believes the plan would  save governance cost  ensure proper coordination of duties and better service delivery.

Shehu said however, that there would be no job losses in the process of pruning the ministries, departments and parastatals, adding that the process would be a very “painstaking thing” that would be done very carefully.

He said workers need not fear as the Buhari administration would not create unemployment, assuring that the president remained committed to his promise to create jobs.
