Former Kaduna Trade Union Congress, TUC Chairman, Comrade Paul Jezhi, has called on Nigerians to support President Muhammad Buhari’s crusade to rid Nigeria of corruption in the corridors of power.
According to him, Buhari may appear slow in approach to governance, but the steps taken so far in fighting corruption and recovering public funds from public servants and other looters are commendable.
In an interview with journalists today at his Barnawa residence, Comrade Paul said the process of recovering stolen public funds from people is not an essay task, hence the need to pray and support the president to sustain it.
The former TUC Chairman who described Buhari as a “Principled and focused leader” observed that it is the political will exhibited by Buhari to fight corruption that has made a lot of public office holders to seat up and face the business of governance.
While pointing out that his body language and efforts towards improving the sectors of the economy have help to rekindle the confidence in Nigerians who have lost hope, he advised other politicians to follow suit.
Fielding question on critics who accused Buhari of lopsided appointments, Comrade Jezhi noted that in politics there must be criticism from members of opposition party and public, but frowned at those accusing Buhari of one sided appointment when he is yet to exhaust his appointment list.
While stressing that critics can only condemn Buhari if all appointments have been done, he stated: “If appointments made had gone up to 50 per cent stage and it was discovered to be one sided anybody can now make comment and people like us will lend our voice to them too. But as for now, it is too early.”
On the delay in appointment of personal aides and ministers, Paul said 60 per cent federal appointment are yet to be made, stressing that the president also deserves to be allowed to appoint people that would help him deliver promises made to Nigerians. He added that he needs enough time in order to avoid repeating mistakes of the past.
He however, urged all governors and other political office holders to emulate Buhari and make their assets declaration public so as to be able to earn public trust after leaving office.
