The Ogun state police command has ordered proprietors of pub centres and other public joints across the state to henceforth close shops for business by 10:00pm. Cul houses however are allowed to open till midnight.
The police warned that violators of the order risk being arrested for breaching the security laws of the state.
The measure followed recent civil disturbances in the state.
On Monday, three persons were killed while many people were seriously injured when cult groups engaged in free for all fight at Elega area in Abeokuta,the state capital.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer,PPRO, DSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Abdulmajid Ali gave the directive in order not to jeopardise the regime of peace in the state.
The Police spokesman further explained that the order became necessary in view of the police investigation which has proven that patrons of liquor centres tend to have lost sense of decency and are prone to commit security breaches after 10:00 pm, after taking “an overdose” of liquor.
Adejobi stated that the command would deem any proprietor of joints and liquor centres caught violating the order as aiding and abetting criminals in the state
