Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, today, called on all political appointees to redouble their efforts at re-connecting with the people, particularly at the grassroots in a bid to spread the positive message of restoration, irrespective of the lean financial times.

Governor Dickson made the call at the swearing-in of the Commissioner for Sports Development, Mr. Perekiye John Buruboyefe and four special advisers at the Executive Council Chambers of Government House, Yenagoa.

The Special Advisers are: Graham Ipigansi for Federal Projects and Liasion; Belemu Nemine, Special Duties; Peter Oku Afagha. government properties and Chief Abednego Don-Evarada, Public Affairs.

According to the Governor, as active members of the Restoration Government, assembly and executive council members as well as other political appointees have a duty to identify with the challenges of their constituents towards making life more meaningful for them.

His words: “I like to seize this opportunity to call on all political appointees; this is when you should reward your government. This is when you should prove yourself as active members of the restoration team. Every weekend, you should take part in every activity back home, every social activity, this is the time that commissioners and assembly members and other appointees need to reconnect to their people; prioritise and assist them in however little ways they can.”

While applauding the restoration team for its efforts and contributions over the various support groups, Governor Dickson said the gesture would go a long way in boosting the welfare policies that were already in place.

Expressing concern over the poor documentation of government properties, the Governor also charged Barr. Peter Afagha, Special Adviser responsible for such properties to ensure that, compensation matters and other properties of government are documented for record purposes.

“I have noticed that records of a number of our government properties are not properly kept. I want you to be responsible for keeping all government properties, wherever they are in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, London anywhere they are, so that, from time to time; from government to government, records of the government should be kept in the office of the Governor, Secretary to State Government and that of the State Attorney General. I will like you to take note of all government land, if government has paid compensation, then you should have the records. And, I will like to have periodic briefings from you and make sure titles are perfected. Where government properties need to be protected, you should get in touch with me.”

Governor Dickson who urged Barr. Afagha to give periodic briefings to government also charged Hon. Graham Ipigansi to facilitate interactions with federal lawmakers from the state and intimate them on an annual basis on the needs and aspirations of the people before the federal budget is sent to the National Assembly.
