Yaya Toure celebrates with teammates after scoring

GOALS from David Silva, Yaya Toure and captain Vincent Kompany ensured a very happy Monday for dominant City in their opening Premier League clash against West Brom.

It was a powerhouse performance from back to front from Manuel Pellegrini’s men, who took an unshakeable grip on the game from the first whistle, and puts them top of the embryonic Premier League table.

On an opening weekend where the dangers lurking throughout the league to so-called title favourites were amply demonstrated, City negotiated Tony Pulis’ well drilled Baggies with consummate skill.

All the talk pre-game might have been concentrated on new-signing Raheem Sterling, but it was a trio of City long-servers who did the damage at the Hawthorns.

The Blues were ahead after just nine minutes, when Silva’s flick deflected in to make it three consecutive seasons the Spanish magician has opened City’s Premier League account for the campaign.

If that goal was scruffy, Toure’s follow up was simply sublime; an emphatic finish after West Brom were ruthlessly cut apart in the build up.

Kompany’s second-half header, which the skipper celebrated on top of the advertising hoardings screaming at the travelling faithful, spoke of a player and team with a major point to prove this season.
