A German doctor has been charged with neglect after a 92-year-old woman woke up in a morgue, a report in the UK Metro newspaper said.
Essen prosecutor Birgit Juergens said a 53-year-old doctor, who has not been named for legal reasons, could face anything from a fine to prison sentence if convicted.
The doctor is alleged to have pronounced the woman dead after her carer found her without a pulse and not breathing.
The elderly woman was seriously ill at the time and living an old people’s home.
She was taken to a morgue but that evening a funeral home worker heard a scream from one of the refrigerators.
He rushed in to find the woman was still alive.
The pensioner however died in hospital two days later from heart disease that is said to be unrelated to the incident.
