Following the dissolution of all federal government boards, parastatals, agencies and institutions, the University of Ibadan is yet to have a Governing Council.

One of the falls out is that the process of the selection of the new vice chancellor for the premier university which started a while ago and which included a recently conducted town hall interaction with the aspirants. The selection interview which was to hold in July had to be cancelled due to the dissolution of the council.

However, the elections of the two senate members into the selection board and the senate representatives in council had been conducted. Vying for the exalted position are thirteen candidates which include the institution’s two former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Idowu Olayinka of the Geology Department and Professor Adigun Agbaje and former DVC (Admin), Professor Arinola Sanya from College of Medicine.

The tenure of the current Vice Chancellor, Professor Isaac Adewole from the College of Medicine ends in November 2015 shortly after the 2015 graduation ceremony.

Professor Adewole, in some interactions with the newsmen in Ibadan disclosed that he would be retiring into farming with a view to increasing food production in Nigeria.
