Toronto joins race for 2024 Olympics

Toronto has joined the race to host the 2024 Olympics after its bid was announced on Sunday by Marcel Aubut, president of the Canadian Olympic Committee.

Toronto joins Paris, Rome, Boston, Budapest and Hamburg in bidding for the Games.

The 1976 Games were held in the Canadian city of Montreal, while Vancouver (2010) and Calgary (1988) hosted winter Games.

Toronto lost bids for the 1996 Games held in Atlanta and 2008 Games, which went to Beijing. The city has been staging the Pan Am Games, which ended on Sunday. (dpa/NAN)
