President Muhammadu Buhari: wades into House of Reps logjam

President Muhammadu Buhari will meet elected members of the House of Representatives representing his political party in Abuja today.

The meeting is scheduled for 5pm at the State House, with the agenda being to break the logjam over the tussle for positions in the 360 member House.

The APC has a commanding majority with 214 members in the house, but members have been divided over the filling of principal offices.

Against the position of the party, Speaker Yakubu Dogara narrowly emerged on 9 June with a majority of eight votes, beating party favorite, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Since then, the party had tried to forge some unity by suggesting the names of members to occupy the remaining offices. But the camp of the speaker, has introduced new criteria for the positions, again making the party look stupid.

It is the logjam that President Buhari hopes to resolve with today’s meeting. On Sunday, President Buhari held a meeting with Gbajabiamila, one of the leaders of the feuding camps in the house.
