Ambode, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Habib Aruna, said his government would uphold and enforce the sanctity of the law in the state.
He,therefore urged residents to also respect the rule of law.
“I hereby reiterate my commitment to uphold and enforce the sanctity of the law in the state, and call on all Lagos residents to respect the rule of law.
“The coroner’s verdict of July 7,2015, made a number of recommendations which the state government will act upon accordingly,” Ambode said.
He said that one of the provisions of the Coroner Law 2007 was the provision that empowered a coroner to commence an inquest to find out the cause and manner of death which occurred in an unusual manner.
Ambode said that consequent upon the collapse at the premises of he church, the state government applied that a coroner’s inquest be commenced into the cause of the tragic deaths.
“The state government will cause the prosecution of the contractor and engineer who constructed and supervised the collapsed building, respectively, for professional negligence,” he said.
Ambode said that the state government would also prosecute the church for neglecting to obtain building approval before commencing the construction, contrary to the provisions of the Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law 2010.
Ambode,therefore, appealed to residents to always allow emergency responders perform their duties of emergency as they were trained for this purpose.
He also enjoined land owners within the state, who intend to embark on construction, to employ the services of qualified and competent engineers, who must obtain building permit before construction.

Let say it like this ; the lagos govt failled to stop a not permited 6 stories building. Why did the govt faill to stop the building.

Forget that this is a Nigerian Church made up of typical Nigerians who have no regard for propriety so long as bribes can be paid to circumvent the law.Same difference whether it be Church or chief, pastor or colonel. Now back to liability. The minister of state whose agency oversees permits got to go so too the engineer who does the approval. So too the project manager on the construction and the construction company the last two of whom jointly and severally should be sued into oblivion by brieved families. Is the Lagos State government responsible? Heck yes. They should be liable for not ensuring that the agents they retain to work for the people were instead lining their own pockets.
If you start the building without the permit, the gov will come and stop the work. Not stopping the work is a kind of permit. The Gov has the power to stop or destroy it and not whait until it collapses on people before they react. In that way the Gov and the church are both responsible for South Africans death.
Far away to distance itself from the incident. Here we are not investigating the root cause resulting in people dying due to building collapse, but the church building itself.
What about the aircraft ? the owner ? did this aircraft used to this kind of exercices in the same place ? Why did the plane hovered 4 times ? where did it land after to see the building collapsing ?
