Senator Shehu Sani today distributed camels and cows to be used for Sallah to seven Local Governments within Kaduna Central Senatorial District his zone.

Speaking at Zango Livestock market today at Tudun Wada Kaduna, while presenting the 12 camels and eight cows in addition to food stuffs worth millions, Senator Sani said he was compelled to distribute the item due to current economic situation in the country .

According to him, he decided to distribute the camels, because camels symbolizes endurance,resilience and courage .

“This is what all Nigerians need at this very time of Sallah event.”

While explaining how in the last 28 days his office was involved in a programme of feeding the poor in the seven Local government areas of his zone and ward, he said it was expedient to distribute the items for members of his constituency to have something to celebrate Sallah.

He hoped the gesture will spur all elected representatives to do same stressing that there is need for elected leaders to help the poor at this very time of need when the country is passing through a very difficult moment in history.

Even though there is a saying that, ‘the poor should be taught how to fish and not to be given fish’, the poverty in Nigeria has reached a humanitarian state where you need to give them fish to be able to fish

“I am here in fulfilment of that very promise to feed my people and to make sure the Sallah turns out to be a memorable one for them and their families. This will continue for the period that I will continue to serve as a senator.”

The Kaduna based Human Rights activist also maintained that what leaders need to do to help the poor, even though there is a saying that, ‘the poor should be taught how to fish and not to be given fish’, the poverty in Nigeria has reached a humanitarian state where you need to give them fish to be able to fish.”

Responding to a question on the rumour of his ambition to run for governorship of Kaduna State in 2019, the Senator explained:

“People are saying that, I am taking advantage of assisting people as a plan for 2019 governorship race. For now, my very important focus is to see how I will use the opportunity of my senatorial seat to serve my people in conformity with the pledges and promises I made to them before the 2015 election.

He urged people peddling such rumours to desist and instead support him to use the office as a Senator to help the needy and develop Kaduna and the country at large.
