The Iyaloja General of Ijebuland,Chief (Mrs) Alimot Shadia Kareem Owogold,a.k.a Mama Elewuju,82, has been assassinated. She was a powerful political leader, allied to the All
Progressives Congress in Ijebu Ode.
Unidentified machete wielding assasins attacked her at her residence at the Government Estate,Sabo-Molode,Itanrin Road,Ijebu Ode. She was left bloodied.
The attack was carried out by six men in the evening of Wednesday. Residents found the powerful woman in great pain and rushed her first to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital. More medical help was sought at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, where she died last night.
“Her corpse was taken back to Ijebu Ode that same night and preparation for her burial is in progress now. We have been told that she will be buried later today but don’t know the actual time”,the source narrated.
Commenting on her death,the APC Chairman in Ijebu Ode,Mr Lekuti disclosed that a great woman has gone in Ijebuland and she will forever be remembered for her leadership and supportive role for many market women in Ijebuland.
According to him,”we have lost a great woman,an organiser,a great mobilizer and a jovial woman. How could some people organised for her to be killed. This issue of killings and kidnappings is getting too much in Ijebu Ode and I pray that Allah will forgive all these bad people.”
