Down with a Chronic Kidney Disease, Olanrewaju Abimbola Olaoba needs N7 million to get his life back
Gazing at nothing in particular on his sick bed at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, is 48-year Olanrewaju Olaoba.
Oblivious of what goes on around him, staring at the hospital ceiling, one would definitely understand the exact reason Olanrewaju felt motionless. Since the beginning of this year, he has had so much to bear. Because of his sickness, he has not been able to run his A La Carte restaurant in Ado-Ekiti; his wife passed on in March due to breast cancer and presently, fending for his five children who are still in school seems like a mountain he can’t move.
At present, he is in dire need of a transplant that will eventually cost him a whooping N7 million in a hospital in India. This was contained in a letter sent to the family members by the consultant physician and nephrologist, Dr Dada of EKUTH.
According to a family member, Rev. Olaitan Olaoba, in an appeal letter to a non-Governmental Organisation, Grace Ibidunni Charity Organisation (GICO): “When we received the letter from Dr Dada, confirming that our brother, who has renal failure, will eventually need a kidney transplantation, which cost between N6 – N7 million in a hospital in India, it was very devastating because at present we have drained our resources in the last few months to let him stay alive. He will also need to continue the maintenance haemodialysis until he gets the kidney transplantation done.””
The enormous financial task of the weekly required dialysis he undergoes to keep him alive since January 19, 2015, at present is, according to him, crippling the family financially and he is desperately in need of funds from good-spirited Nigerians.
“We, therefore, plead for humanitarian financial assistance from good philanthropic citizens of Nigeria towards the three times weekly dialysis and the final kidney transplantation,” Rev Olaitan added.
Rev. Olaitan called on kind-hearted individuals and corporate organisations to assist the family by saving the life of Olarenwaju.

Born on 15 September 1966 in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State ( he is a native of Omu Ekiti in Oye local government area of Ekiti State), Olanrewaju attended Christ’s School, Ado Ekiti and graduated in 1983. He studied at the Ondo State College of Arts and Science Ikare Akoko and Tai Solarin University, Ijebu Ode.
