A bomb blast has gone off in the university town of Zaria, in Kaduna state, the latest in the terrorist attacks in recent days in Nigeria.

The latest blast occurred in Sabongari area of the city, where non-indigenous settlers live. It happened at the council headquarters where primary school teachers and council workers had gathered for biometric identification.

Twenty one people died, according to Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and healing for the injured, when he visited the council.

On Monday night, a teenage female suicide bomber had imploded near a famous mosque in the city of Kano, the largest city north of Nigeria. Police spokesman Magaji Majiya said the girl’s target was likely the Umar Ibn Al-Khattab mosque and that she was the only casualty.

The attack in Kano followed similar ones in Jos, and villages in Borno and Yobe states.
