President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday sacked Ita Ekpenyong as director-general of the Department of State Security Services.
Lawal Musa Daura, from Buhari’s hometown was announced as the successor.
Haruna Imrana, Director, Communications, Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), announced the change of guard in Abuja,, quoting a letter by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mr Danladi Kifasi. No reason was given for Ekpenyong’s sack, but in recent days, the DSS has been embroiled in a controversy with President Buhari’s APC, over security arrangement around the president and the role of DSS operatives.
Daura was born in Daura on Aug. 5, 1953, and attended Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, from 1977 to 1980.
He started his career in the State Security Service in 1982 and rose to the rank of Director.
Between 2003 and 2007, he was the Deputy Director, Presidential Communication, Command and C ontrol Centre at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He also served as the State Director of Security Service at various times in Kano, Sokoto, Edo, Lagos, Osun and Imo States.
He attended various professional courses both home and abroad, including the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, (NIPSS), Kuru.
