Governor Tambuwal: paid 2 a.m visit to state specialist hospital

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Sunday paid an unscheduled visit at 2 a.m to the Murtala Muhammed State Specialist Hospital, Sokoto and was startled by what he saw.

First of all, he found the hospital in total darkness. Then he found that most patients were not on their beds, but resting outside the wards. He found also fewer medical workers on duty.

It was when some workers recognised him that they quickly went to switch on the electricity generator.

It was too late, the governor had already formed his impression about the state of affairs in the hospital.

In a statement today Tambuwal lamented the condition of patients and warned that government would not tolerate laxity from its workers.

A statement signed by Tambuwal’s spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, said the governor not only wished the patients quick recovery, but gave them the assurance that the health needs of the populace would be taken seriously by his administration’’.

The statement also quoted the governor as advising the staff to work with the fear of God.

It warned that any government worker found negligent would be sanctioned appropriately.
