Winners Chapel pastor abducted

Pastor Seyi Adekunle: abducted

Gunmen have abducted a Senior Resident Pastor of Winners Chapel Church, Mr. Seyi Adekunle in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

The kidnappers reportedly stormed the church premises about 8.00pm,on Saturday night shot sporadically into the air, before whisking the cleric away to an unknown destination. The church located on IBB Way in the city, is the next door neighbour of the Airport Division of the Nigerian Police.

Few members of the church who had gathered to pray for the Sunday service were present when the abductors struck.

Police were said to have responded to an emergency call but it was late as the dare-devil gunmen had fled with the pastor.

A witness said that three armed men entered the church building unnoticed during the prayer session, while a fourth person, who was masked, identified the pastor in the midst of the praying group.

The pastor was immediately hedged by the abductors and taken away. The popular theory was that the masked person that identified the pastor may be familiar with the church or known by the pastor.

Meanwhile messages of goodwill are being posted on Adekunle’s Facebook page. Halle Abi Apanpa wrote: If there is one thing I know you for, it is your fire branded zeal, passion, commitment and dedication to God and service and my family and I are beneficiaries of the anointing of God upon you. So therefore I am at peace that Almighty God is in control. God is too faithful to fail and He is never late.”

Bridget Oyedemi said: It has happened before in Acts 12:2, but intercessory prayer was made (verse 5) and God sent His Rescuing Angel (verse 7-17)and the people were astonished. He then testified of God’s doing (verse 18).
