Igbuya elected Delta Assembly Speaker, Ali leads Kwara House

Mr. Monday Igbuya was on Monday elected as Speaker of the 6th Assembly in Delta State, South-South Nigeria, following inauguration of the Assembly by its Clerk, Mrs. Lyna Ocholor.

In Kwara state, a former member of the House of Representatives, Dr Ahmad Ali, emerged the Speaker.

Ali was unanimously elected by the 23 members of the State House of Assembly at its inauguration in llorin.

The motion for the selection of the speaker was moved by Alhaji Hassan Oyeleke (APC, Essa-Sawo-lgbodun constituency)) and seconded by Malam Adamu Usman (APC, Okuta-Yashikira Constituency).

The member representing Lanwa-Ejodongari constituency, Mr Mathew Okedare, emerged as the deputy speaker of the Assembly.

In Delta state, Mr. Igbuya, member representing Sapele Constituency, was unanimously elected by the members, following his nomination by the member representing Ughelli North Constituency I, Samuel Mariere .

Mr. Friday Osanebi was also elected Deputy Speaker, following his nomination by the immediate past Speaker of the House, Peter Onwusanya, and was seconded by Dennis Omovie, (Warri South Constituency II).

The oath of office was immediately administered on the new elected Speaker and Deputy Speaker by the Clerk of the House at the main chamber of the Assembly.

Igbuya, in his acceptance speech, said he has gathered experiences to pilot the affairs of the state legislature. He called for maximum support of all stakeholders to succeed in the task ahead.

Earlier before inaugurating the 6th Assembly in Delta State, Clerk of the House, Mrs. Ocholor, had read a proclamation letter written by the State governor, Ifeayin Okowa, declaring the Assembly open.
