The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, has appealed to the party’s stakeholders across the country to put to rest all misunderstanding and put the survival and stability of the party ahead of other considerations.

He made the appeal on Tuesday in Abuja in a statement issued to newsmen.

He urged members of the party to put behind them the disappointment caused by the party’s defeat the 2015 general elections.

He noted that though the defeat was painful, members should key into the intervention by President Goodluck Jonathan by not allowing the situation to further divide the party.

He said the national leadership of the party had noted the various reactions that trailed the defeat.

“As the national chairman and a key stakeholder in this party in the last 16 years, I quite understand and appreciate the concern, pain and frustrations of our members regarding our defeat.

“I am also deeply worried about the division the development has generated within the PDP family especially regarding whether or not the national leadership should be dissolved as a direct consequence of our collective challenge.

“In the course of events, there have been reactions and counter-reactions among party members and mistakes have been made some of them avoidable.

“But this is the time to put all these behind us and move ahead and the interest of the party remain paramount and overriding.

“Expectedly, our party has had a share of media bashing and misrepresentations which contributed immensely to the misunderstanding we are facing in our fold,’’ he said.

The PDP chairman said he appreciated the reactions of some members of the party who had shown loyalty and commitment to the party in past 16 years and had been state governors on its platform for eight years.

“I very much appreciate the reactions of some of our members like Gov. Ayo Fayose, whose victory in Ekiti in June 2014 helped to strengthen our party, particularly in the south-west region.

“Nevertheless, in the larger interest of our party, we must all resolve to bury the hatchet and pick our pieces to rebuild the party and return it to its winning ways,’’ Mu’azu said.

Mu’azu urged PDP members to support the Sen. Ike Ekweremadu-led post election assessment committee to come up with a report that would provide answers to the challenges and a road map for the party`s future.
