The number of government workers in Gombe state has increased from 15,000 to 21,000.

Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Malam Haruna Kamara gave the figure, attributing it to Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo.

Kamara commended the governor for identifying with workers and urged him to sustain his support to civil servants by introducing overseas training for workers, so as to boost workers’ morale.

“Training and re-training, promotion and employment should be your priority in your second tenure,” he said at the workers’day parade.

In a speech at the ceremony, Dankwambo assured the NLC of his full support in its efforts toward improved welfare for workers.

He was represented by the state Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Ahmed Usman.

He said that the government would continue to partner with labour to promote effective service delivery that would facilitate more democracy dividends for the populace.

He commended the workers for their commitment to a better Gombe, and promised to set aside a particular date to celebrate with the workers.
