The governorship and house of assembly polls in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria. Begins on a smooth note as accreditations are ongoing in most places without hiccup but very low turnout.

Unlike the presidential election that recorded huge turnout and several hiccups, the governorship poll recorded low turnout but very smooth process.

Problems associated with non-functional card readers in the presidential election were non-existence in this poll as there were no issues with. Break. Down card readers.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, came to most polling units very early and immeiately set to work.

In Alimosho, Abulegba, Surulere, Agege, Ojota, Ikeja, Ojodu, Kosofe, Oshodi and many other places, accreditation went on smoothly. Only few people came out for accreditation.

As at 11.00am, INEC officials were seen doing nothing as they had been through with the few people who came out for accreditation in many places.

In Surulere, Governor Babatunde Fashola came for accreditation around 11:30 am with his wife, Abimbola at polling unit 002, State Senior Grammar School, Itolo.

The governor acknowledged the act that the turnout was low and called on Lagosians to come out of their houses for accreditation before the end of the exercise.

In Kosofe, a resident, Adeniyi Ojebisi said the exercise was very smooth but noted that the turnout was low.

He said unlike the last election where the card readers were faulty, there was no such problem in this election.
