Former world number one golfer Tiger Woods has dropped out of the top 100 on the rankings for the first time in almost two decades.

The 39-year old American now occupies 104th spot on the latest golf rankings, the lowest he has been since 1996 when he was ranked 225th as a 20-year old rookie.

Woods’ sharp decline on the rankings has come following an indefinite break from the sport, which he embarked on after withdrawing from the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in February.

His withdrawal, due to back problems, came after he carded his worst round as a professional at the Phoenix Open in January, prompting his break which would only end when he “can compete at the highest level.”

The winner of 14 majors and 79 PGA tour titles hopes to compete at the Masters of the year at Augusta, which begins April 9.
