Buhari, Kwankwaso lead PDP rout in Kano

*Jonathan fails to meet the 25% cut


The All Progressives Congress, APC, is making a big statement in Kano as the party cruised to victory, sweeping all the National Assembly seats.

The party’s presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari also maintained his political grip on the ancient commercial state, polling 1, 903, 999 votes to defeat President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who 215, 779 in the state.

The incumbent Governor, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso was also bold to defeat Senator Bashir Lado of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Kwankwaso polled 758, 383, while Senator Lado recorded 205, 809 votes for the Kano Central Senatorial District.

With this victiory, Kwankwaso who came second in the APC presidential primaries is on his way to the Senate, and he has promised to leverage his position to help the development of Kano and the people of Nigeria.

Former House of Representatives member, Alhaji Barau Jubril, made a big wave in Kano North, where he defeated Senate Majority Whip, Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo who has been in the Senate since 1999 democratic dispensation.

Barau Jubril scored 381, 393, while Bello Hayatu got 107, 845 votes.

Collation of results was still going on in Kano South, but there were indications that Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya will retain his seat as he leads former Commissioner for Local Government Affairs under Malam Ibrahim Shekarau’s tenure, Alhaji Abdullahi Rogo.

The APC has also cleared the entire House of Representatives seats in the state.
