The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said it was postponing the House of Representatives election in Nigeria’s Jigawa State.

The information is contained in a statement issued by Alhaji Sirajo Kore, Head of Voter Education and Publicity of the commission in Dutse, the state capital.

The statement stated that there were insufficient supplies of ballot papers to seven constituencies and as such INEC headquarters directed the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Haliru Tambawel, to postpone the poll.

“The REC spoke with INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, on phone after the stakeholders meeting and the chairman asked him for the opinion of the majority of stakeholders.

“And REC responded that most of the stakeholders are of the opinion for the shifting all the House of Representatives poll in the 11 federal constituencies and Jega directed him to abide by views of majority,” it stated.

According to the statement, a new date for the election would be announced by the commission.
