Maria Sharapova: beats Azarenka

World number two Maria Sharapova defeated Victoria Azarenka 6-4, 6-3 in the third round of the WTA and ATP Indian Wells tennis tournament on Monday.

Sharapova moves through to the round of 16 where she will square off against defending women’s champ Flavia Pennetta of Italy.

Caroline Wozniacki is also out. The Danish number 4 was beaten by Swiss Belinda Bencic, seeded 31, in two sets, 6-4, 6-4.

In the men’s category, Australian Bernard Tomic, seeded 32, shocked eighth seeded Spain’s David Ferrer by sending him packing in two straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.
