Chief Edwin Clark, leader of the Ijaw people in Nigeria, has lamented what he sees as the imposition of candidates by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the forthcoming general elections in the country.
Clark said this would be a major challenge for the party during the elections that come up in March and April.
“I am very sad indeed that people in Gombe, majority of our minority people are being held hostage.
“The problem of imposition is not limited to Gombe, the problem PDP has today across the country was caused by imposition of candidates, being replaced by people who are not qualified for reason best known by the party.
“So these are problems we are trying to resolve.
“A situation whereby a governor of a state would try to nominate everybody to become part of him is not democracy,” he lamented.
Speaking in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, on Friday while playing host to the leadership of Jonathan Sambo Support Group in Gombe South/Central Senatorial District of Gombe State, Clark also supported the use of soldiers during the elections.
According to him, this is necessary to guarantee free, fair and peaceful elections in the country adding: “our people want safety when they go out to vote and the soldiers would be deployed to guarantee that.”

Mr. Ghainard, you got your facts mixed up on Tam David West. Buhari was petroleum minister under Obasanjo as a military head of state. David West served under Buhari (1984 to August 1985) as petroleum minister. He was retained by Babangida in the ministry of mines and power and later removed for "accepting a wrist watch gift''.
Same difference Mr /Mrs bayuse..... your point does not negate the fact that for a long time Northern Nigeria Sunni Moslem emasculation of the Nigerian state from which they remained unaccountable to anyone and looted the economy was unchecked. The fact that they doled out selective crumbs to lick spittles like Obasanjo etc does not justify nor negate the premise that Nigeria's continuance as one entity is only for their benefit. They elevated corruption into an art form and set precedents of unckecked fraud beyond imagination because they monopolized the state's instrument of coercive persuation. Federal police in Nigeria which is a force of 'commission agents' that repoort not to the 'natives' been policed but rather to higher ups off site is another example. When ever Sunni moslems rise in tandem to proclaim their faith it is nothing but a clarion call to usurp the rights of others. Buhari will not be president.
