South Africa’s Minister of Sports Fikile Mbalula has called world football’s governing body FIFA very inefficient for being indecisive in dealing with match fixing allegations.

Strong evidence of match fixing was found in some of the 2010 FIFA World Cup warmup matches, with Mbalula stating that FIFA had given South Africa the go-ahead in April 2013 to set up an inquiry on the matter.

However, little progress has been made in the inquest according to Mbalula, who added “it has actually damaged FIFA’s image as very inefficient and very relaxed to allegations of corruption and not dealing with them decisively.”

Meanwhile the FIFA Ethics Committee stated it “cannot confirm whether or not there is any investigation pending regarding the subject”, in response to Mbalula’s claims.
