The Peoples Democratic Party,PDP in Ogun State under the leadership of Engr. Bayo Dayo has announced the expulsion of the former President of Nigeria and the former Chairman of the Board of Trustees,BoT,Chief Olusegun Obasanjo from the party.
The expulsion came hours after the former President quit the party in a dramatic fashion, throwing away his membership card and asking his ward chairman,Alhaji Surajudeen Oladunjoye to shred it. Oladunjoye and and 350 members of Ward 11, later joined Obasanjo in destroying their membership cards as well.
Addressing newsmen at the party secretariat along the IBB Boulevard,Oke Mosan, Engineer Dayo claimed Obasanjo’s ward had earlier sent a letter expressing their concern over Obasanjo’s anti party activities.
According to him, “We have received a letter forwarded from his ward. The letter was dated 12th February, 2015. They expressed serious concern at his numerous anti-party activities and uncomplimentary utterances targeted at the leader of the party, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
“Following the series of unabated anti-party activities unbecoming of a highly celebrated party man engaged in by Chief Obasanjo, the totality of the executive, leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party family in Ogun State hereby state categorically as from today Monday 16th February, 2015, Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo stands expelled and ex-communicated from the party, thereby losing all rights, previous privileges and respect of our teeming members,” Dayo said.
According to him, whatever the former President Olusegun Obasanjo “does or say henceforth must no longer be seen from the prism of a PDP leader.”
