Cote D’Ivoire came from two goals down in penalty shootouts to overcome West African rivals Ghana 9-8 in highly dramatic fashion and claim the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations title on Sunday.

Following two hours of goalless football in Bata, Equatorial Guinea, the Ivorians found themselves 2-0 down in the ensuing penalty kicks as Wilfried Bony and Gadji Tallo missed their spot kicks.

But Ghana, who had led through successful kicks by Wakaso Mubarak and substitute Jordan Ayew, failed to finish off the Ivorians as Frank Acheampong saw his kick saved and Afiriye Acquah fired wide while Seydou Doumbia levelled for the Ivorians.

The next dozen penalty kicks were converted by both sides as it went down to the opposing goalkeepers to have their go during the sudden death kicks.

Ghana’s Brimah Razak saw his poor penalty saved by Boubacar Barry who, after receiving treatment on his hand, scored the title winning kick and end Cote D’Ivoire’s consistent underachievement in the competition.
