Northern Nigeria based socio-cultural group, Arewa Consultative Forum , ACF and Itsekiri Leaders of Thought from the southern Delta state, ILT met in Kaduna today and resolved that the 2015 election must hold on February 14 as earlier scheduled by Independent National Electoral Commission.
The two regional groups which also resolved to work together as Nigerians called upon INEC and other stakeholders not to contemplate a postponement of the scheduled polls, under no circumstance.
Addressing newsmen after a closed door meeting held at the Sokoto Road, Headquarters of ACF, Chairman of ACF , former Inspector General Police , Ibrahim Ahmadu Coomasie who spoke on behalf the groups said the implication of postponing the elections will be too far reaching as it may create constitutional crisis , loss of confidence by the people in the system ans social crises as well as as general uncertainty .
While re-affirming the groups belief in one Nigeria and confidence in the role elections play in a democracy, the ACF Chairman emphasized, ” We should not tamper with the democratic system and electoral matters “.
Chief Isaac Jemide led the delegation of Itsekiri Leaders of Thought to the meeting.
There have been controversies over whether the election should be held as scheduled or not, with the opposition All Progressives Congress, accusing the Jonathan administration of sponsoring protests to delay the vote.
