Cambridge buries PDP doubts on Buhari's school certificate

The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, now known as Cambridge Assessment, has confirmed that African language papers, including Hausa, were offered for the West African School Certificate Examination in the Northern Region in 1961.
The UK examination body, in a statement on its website dated 23 January, also said that the number of candidates who sat for the WASSC Hausa examination in 1961 was 152.
The PDP campaign team and the party’s cyber warriors have been attacking Maj. General Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress over his school certificate result.
Despite the release of the result by the principal of the Katsina Government College, Buhari’s old school, the PDP kept saying the result was fake.
Here is the full statement issued by the examining body. It is titled: Statement in response to Nigerian presidential election enquiries.
“The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES), now known as Cambridge Assessment, in response to requests to authenticate a candidate’s exam certificate, today said: “We can only confirm or verify results at the direct request of or with the permission of a candidate.”
“This is in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 and section 40 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.”
“The organisation also confirmed that according to the Regulations for 1961, African Language papers, including those for Hausa were set for the West African School Certificate.
“Examination results were classed in grades by 1 to 9. 1,2,3,4,5 & 6 indicate a Pass with Credit; 7 & 8 indicate a Pass; 9 indicates a Failure.
“To pass the School Certificate, candidates had to pass examinations in a variety of groups. It was compulsory to pass English Language, but not Maths, in order to gain the Certificate.
“The number of candidates who sat for the WASC Hausa examination in 1961 was 152.
Our records show that Hausa was set in the Northern Region in 1961.”

What are you rattling about? Do you know the dictionary meaning of the word equivalent? The issue of equivalent does not arise here! GMB has a WASC certificate WITH the army! If the army likes let them allow PDP to continue rubbishing them as if the Boko Haram disgrace is not enough. Let PDP look for another scandal because this will never stick.
Oh my, surely School Certificate results of over 50 years ago have NOTHING to do with an adult’s qualifications today! Growing up in New Zealand, I recall that neither the Prime Minister nor the Leader of the Opposition had a School Certificate (let alone any secondary education), yet both are remembered fondly as very capable Prime Ministers. It sounds to me as though somebody’s campaign is getting a little desperate. I wish fellow Commonwealth citizens a peaceful and successful election.

I can see you don’t understand what a sworn affidavit means not to talk of the content of what was sworn. If you do, you won’t be arguing like this. He swore he has the certificate. He didn’t swear to have an equivalent. Can you work out the difference?

Are you one of the doubters of General Buhari’s school certificate? What else are you guys looking for? The man said he lost his original certificate, thought the army where he was compulsorily retired almost 30 years ago had the paper; when it was said the certificate was not in his file, his old school presented the result sheet sent by Cambridge 53 years ago. All the issues raised by Goodluck campaign group have been thrashed by Cambridge: Yes, Hausa was one of the subjects taken in 1961; Yes; performance grades were just as presented by Buhari’s school. You guys are still fishing for scandal where there is none. It’s better you abandoned this track and faced the real issues about what the 14 February election should be
The News Headline is completely disconnected from the story. It doesn’t match up with the content of the article.

Buhari has not applied for disclosure of his certificate and how does that bury the worry Nigerians have as regards Buhari’s certificate.
It is not wise using inappropriate headline for a very important story like this. It’s like bad journalism.
