Cote D’Ivoire began preparation for the 2015 African Cup of Nations with a 1-0 win over a second-string Nigeria in a friendly encounter played in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
Stand-in Super Eagles coach Daniel Amokachi started with the likes of Chigozie Agbim, Mfon Udoh, Rabiu Ibrahim, Kingsley Sokari and Azubuike Egwuekwe.
The Ivorians meanwhile had reigning African Player of the Year Yaya Toure in the starting line-up as well as Roma atacker Gervinho, PSG fullback Serge Aurier and Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote.
Mohammed Gambo had the first chance of the game, but could only side-foot his effort straight at the Ivorian goalkeeper in the 12th minute as a largely scrappy first half ended goalless.
The second half also saw clearcut chances scarce until six minutes from time when Tiote pounced on a poor backheeled pass by Rabiu Ali and cut back for former Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou to score the winner.
Cote D’Ivoire will next face Sweden in another friendly encounter on January 15 before kicking off their Nations Cup campaign against Guinea on January 20.
Elsewhere, north African rivals Tunisia and Algeria played out a 1-1 draw in another friendly encounter.
