Goals either side of half-time from Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale sealed the FIFA Club World Cup title for European champions Real Madrid on Saturday in a 2-0 win over South American champions San Lorenzo in Marrakech, Morocco.

Real went into the Club World Cup final on a staggering run of 21 successive wins in all competitions, extending the record in Morocco with win over San Lorenzo in the final.

As in the semis, Real dominated from the onset with Ballon d’Or holder Cristiano Ronaldo and Bale testing the San Lorenzo goalkeeper before Ramos found the back of the net with a headed effort off a Toni Kroos corner-kick in the 38th minute to finally put Real in front.

Bale eventually got on the scoresheet as well seven minutes into the second half when he turned in a clever pass from Isco to extend Real’s advantage on the night and ultimately seal the result.

Real’s success in Morocco comes with leading scorer Ronaldo not finding the back of the net for any of the club’s six goals at the competition, though he was on hand to set up two of the semi-final goals.

In the third place playoff , Oceania champions Auckland City made history by defeating Cruz Azul of Central America 4-2 on penalties after the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

The result ensured the New Zealanders became the first club from Oceania to finish the Club World Cup with a medal, having only made it as far as the quarterfinal stage on two previous occasions.

Real Madrid defeated San Lorenzo of Argentina 2-0 on Saturday to win the Club World Cup and secure their fourth trophy of 2014.

The Spanish giants dominated the final with Sergio Ramos, who had been an injury doubt because of a hamstring strain, and Gareth Bale getting on the scoresheet.

Real added the year-ending trophy to the Champions League, Copa del Rey and European Super Cup titles they had already secured in 2014. They will also end the year on top of La Liga.

Saturday’s triumph was also their 22nd consecutive win in all competitions, and they now have in their sights the mark of 26 straight wins achieved by Johan Cruyff’s Ajax side in 1971-72.

“We deserved to win the title — we can say that Real Madrid are the best team in the world,” said Real coach Carlo Ancelotti.

“We have done really well this year, it’s been unforgettable. We are a team and a family.”

Real are also guaranteed to finish the year as La Liga leaders and Ancelotti was already setting his sights on similar achievements in 2015.

“We’d be happy with a repeat. We’ll continue forward like this in all competitions and will face the new year with excitement and enthusiasm.”

Meanwhile, Bale tweeted: “Couldn’t think of a better Christmas present, FIFA World Club Champions 2014!! #HalaMadrid.”
