A queue for petrol: sacrcity began in Kano Friday

Long queues of vehicles have resurfaced at filling stations in Kano metropolis, as scarcity of petroleum products hit the commercial city.

The queues started on Friday and many filling stations in the city had increased the pump price from N97 per litre to between N105 and N120 per litre.

A NAN correspondent who went round the city on Sunday observed that the long queues of vehicles had become common sight and some residents said commercial vehicle owners had increased fares by about 10 per cent.

A resident, Malam Musa Bello, said “even tricycle operators are not left out, as most of them have started capitalising on the situation to exploit people.’’

He alleged that some of the filling stations hoard the commodity in order to maximise profit.

Another resident, Abubakar Bala, urged the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to do something urgently to check the excesses of oil marketers.

He said “we hope the DPR will rise up to the challenge before the situation gets out of hand.’’

State Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Alhaji Bashir Danmalam, could not be reached on phone, NAN reported.
