Ade Dosunmu: wins Lagos central ticket

Mr. Olumide Braithwaite, son of eminent Nigerian and pro-democracy activist, Dr Tunji Braithwaite, and Hakeem Gbajabiamila, a former commissioner in Lagos State on Sunday lost the PDP Lagos-Central Senatorial primary election to Dr Ade Dosunmu, the 2011 governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos.

Mrs Nkechi Mba, the PDP presiding electoral officer for the zone, who announced the result at the National Stadium venue, commended the aspirants and the delegates for their conduct.

Announcing the result, she said that Dosunmu got 130 votes and Hakeem Gbajabiamila, a 2007 governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy, got 83 votes to come second in the election.

Braithwaite polled seven votes.

Speaking to newsmen, Dosunmu expressed gratitude to the party for choosing him.

“I am particularly impressed by how peaceful the primaries were and I congratulate the organisers,” he said.

Also speaking, Gbajabiamila said that it was a fair contest.

“The primary election was smooth and the PDP continues to show strength in ensuring internal democracy,’’ he said.

Braithwaite, who said it was his first time of contesting for an election in Nigeria, described the contest as peaceful and satisfactory.

Fourteen aspirants contested for PDP tickets in the three senatorial districts of the state.
